As a Chartered professional membership body, the Landscape Institute is governed by its Royal Charter, By-laws, and Regulations.
Board of Trustees
The trustees have legal responsibility for the charity and the Board meets six times per year. Their job description and terms of reference can be found here. There are up to 12 trustees as follows:
The role of the Council is to represent members and to help set the strategic objectives of the organisation, leaving management of the organisation to the Board of Trustees. The Council meets three times per year and the job description for Council members is here.

The A ppointments and Selection Committee is appointed by Council. Its task is to select nominees for the elected positions on Council and to make recommendations to Council on how places on the Board of Trustees which are not directly elected should best be filled.
The Education & Membership Committee, the Technical Committee and the Policy Committee take the lead on the three main areas of activity which the Institute undertakes. The Chair of each committee is a member of the Board of Trustees, and each committee also has a representative on the Council.
Branch Committees
Each of the 12 branches in the UK has a committee elected by branch members. Each branch has a representative on the Council.
